Youth and Games for Impact: Building the Future in the North
Today is International Youth Day, and for us at Creative Crowd, that feels close to home. Our mission is Games for Impact: turning complex challenges into playful, meaningful experiences that help people and organizations understand the world a little better, and change it for the better. A few examples from our own work show what that mission looks like when young people are placed at the centre.
InnoGS: Designing for Youth Engagement in Rural Communities
InnoGS, short for Innovation Through Gamification Solutions, is a three-year project (2025 to 2028) funded through the Interreg Northern Periphery and Arctic programme and led by Savonia University of Applied Sciences in Finland. Its starting point is a challenge shared across rural and northern communities: young people disengaging, talent leaving, and public and private organizations struggling to involve the people who will shape these places tomorrow.
Together with our partners, we are helping build Digital Innovation Districts, spaces where local actors can test gamified tools and digital methods for engaging young people and underrepresented groups. The goal is simple to state and hard to achieve: make participation in your own community's future feel worth showing up for.

Aurora Reel Accelerator: Opening the Door to Emerging Creators
Aurora Reel Accelerator takes a different angle on the same idea. This three-year cross-border initiative between Sweden and Finland, run together with Novia University of Applied Sciences, gives emerging filmmakers, game developers and VFX artists across the Aurora region access to Virtual Production technology, technology that used to be reserved for major studios.
Through shared VP infrastructure, hands-on Reel Jam workshops and mentorship, the project helps young and underrepresented creative talent produce professional-grade trailers, with blind jurying and gender balance built in from the start, so that opportunity depends on the work, not on who you already know. Some of the trailers created will go on to international festivals and markets, opening doors that are usually hard to reach from the north.

Nordsken: A Festival for everyone
Our collaboration with Nordsken, Northern Scandinavia's largest nerd festival, is part of the same mission. Held every year in Skellefteå, the festival grew out of a simple observation: there were far too few spaces in the north where nerd culture and youth culture could truly meet. Today, thousands of visitors gather for three days of digital gaming, cosplay, LAN parties and creative expression, much of it organized by young people themselves. For us, Nordsken is proof that Games for Impact does not always mean a formal project with a funding programme attached. Sometimes it simply means helping build a place where young people can be exactly who they are, and discover who they might become.
Why This Matters on International Youth Day
All three examples are, at their core, about the same thing: making sure young people in northern Sweden and across the Arctic region are not just included in the future, but actively shaping it. That is what Games for Impact means to us, not just building serious games, but building spaces, tools and opportunities where the next generation feels seen, heard and genuinely able to take part.
So today, we want to say thank you to everyone building this future with us, in Skellefteå, across the Aurora region, on the Nordsken festival grounds, and beyond. Keep going. We are just getting started.
