Aurora Reel Accelerator is a three-year cross-border initiative connecting Finland and Sweden to strengthen the cultural and creative industries in the northern Nordic region. The project focuses on Virtual Production (VP) technology, a cutting-edge approach that combines filmmaking with game-engine techniques to create immersive, high-quality audiovisual content.

Boost regional film and creative industries: By providing access to shared VP infrastructure and advanced training, the project enhances competitiveness and market readiness.

  1. Foster innovation and collaboration: The Reel Jam model brings together emerging filmmakers, game developers, VFX artists, and other creative professionals from the Aurora region to co-create market-ready trailers.

  2. Promote inclusivity and equality: Open access to training, a blind jury selection process, and gender-balanced participation ensure fair opportunities for women and underrepresented groups.

  3. Support sustainability: VP reduces travel, physical set construction, and material waste, contributing to climate-friendly production practices.

Key Goals

Shared VP Infrastructure: Two compatible VP screens will be installed in Finland and Sweden, creating a unique, cross-border production resource that no single region could sustain alone.

  1. Reel Jam Workshops: Annual intensive workshops enable participants to rapidly develop creative concepts, receive mentoring, and produce professional trailers.

  2. Open Learning & Training: Online tutorials, case studies, and local workshops ensure that knowledge and skills are widely accessible.

  3. International Exposure: Finished trailers will be pitched at global markets and festivals, creating opportunities for funding, networking, and industry recognition.

HOW IT WORKS

  • Novia University of Applied Sciences (Finland) – lead partner, providing expertise in film, media, and creative education.

  • Creative Crowd AB (Sweden) – partner, offering technical knowledge in VFX, games, and motion capture, as well as operational support for VP.
