Exploring the Future Through Play 🎮🌍
What if one of the most effective ways to understand the future is not simply to predict it - but to play it?
At SE26 TALKS, Creative Crowd had the opportunity to share how game technology can contribute to addressing some of society's most complex challenges, from sustainable resource management to climate adaptation and long-term decision-making 🌲🌱
Together with IVL Swedish Environmental Research Institute and Skogforsk, we are developing a strategy game for sustainable forest management based on a digital twin of Sweden. By combining research, real-world data, simulation technology, and game design, the project aims to create a new way of exploring the relationships between forestry, biodiversity, climate impact, and future policy decisions.
The challenge facing decision-makers today is rarely a lack of information. More often, it is the complexity of understanding how different choices influence one another over time.
Interactive simulations offer a powerful way to address this challenge. Rather than discussing hypothetical scenarios in theory, we can create environments where people can test ideas, experience consequences, and explore different pathways toward the future. Through play, complex systems become more tangible, understandable, and accessible.
During Johan's presentation, we shared how game technology can serve as a bridge between research and real-world decision-making. The conversations that followed reinforced something we strongly believe:
