Creative Crowd is a games-for-impact consultancy based in Skellefteå, Sweden. Through its Games for Impact work, the company uses game technology, game design and GIS data to build serious games, gamified platforms, digital twins and simulators that help people learn, take part in decisions and understand complex issues.
What Games for Impact means
Games for Impact means using the tools and design thinking of the games industry for purposes beyond entertainment. Instead of only reading reports or looking at maps, people can explore information, test decisions and see the consequences in a safe, interactive environment.
Creative Crowd applies this approach in five main areas:
Education and training
Public engagement and citizen dialogue
Behaviour change
Environmental and sustainability work
Health and rehabilitation research
What Creative Crowd builds
Serious games and gamified platforms for organisations working on social, environmental and health challenges.
Digital twins: interactive 3D copies of real places, built with real-time game technology and often based on GIS data such as terrain models, aerial imagery and LiDAR scans.
Simulators that let users explore “what if” scenarios, such as new buildings, rising water levels or emergency training.
Motion capture at Studio Brunns, Creative Crowd’s virtual production and mocap facility north of Stockholm, used for research and prototyping.
Examples of Games for Impact projects
Skogens spelplan (Playing the Forest) is a research-based serious game about forest management, developed with IVL Swedish Environmental Research Institute and Skogforsk. It turns scientific data and future scenarios into an interactive experience where players see how forestry decisions affect climate, biodiversity and economic value over time.
GIS-Data to Reality recreated Skellefteå and the Skellefte River in 3D, showing how open geographic data can become an explorable digital twin.
Creative Crowd’s other projects include Geonauts, Nordsken and Rehab Research – Back Pain.
EU projects and partnerships
Creative Crowd works with public organisations, research partners and companies, and helps organisations design and apply for EU-funded innovation projects. Current EU projects include InnoGS (Interreg NPA), Aurora Reel Accelerator (Interreg Aurora), xborder and Support 4 Games. Creative Crowd is a member of Dataspelsbranschen, the Swedish games industry association.
